Vitamin D3 Supplementation--A Smart Choice For Your Best Health
It used to be that you'd go outside, work in the garden or the fields, and get plenty of vitamin D stored in
your body for the low-light months of winter.
But that's just not the case anymore.
Most of us are slathered from head to toe in sunscreen when we go to the beach, and worse, some of us have
decided that it's safer to avoid the sun altogether.
Granted, the skin cancer warnings and risks are valid if you have a history of sun burn or continue to get sun
burned on a regular basis--but that's not what I am talking about here.
What I am suggesting is: you need sunshine to stay healthy.
In fact, you need at least 15 minutes of sunshine on your face and hands each day to help your body produce the
vitamin D that it needs for your good health.
Less than 15 minutes of sun per day, and you are at risk for becoming vitamin D deficient...which means that
nearly everyone reading this is at risk--myself included.
So here's what I recommend:
- Get into the sun at least 15 minutes per day, as often as you can. If you can get out in the sun more than
that, great. Just don't get sun burned, and wear a large brimmed hat (with gloves and long sleeves) if you have
to work in the sun for extended periods of time when the sun is at its hottest (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
- Spend 30-60 minutes in the sun during the less intense times of the morning, such as from 9 a.m to 10
a.m.--or again in the later afternoon or early evenings if possible.
- Spend time outdoors in the sun without wearing sunglasses. It is important for your eyes to absorb some
natural UV radiation when it is not too intensely bright--again, mornings and evenings are a good time for
this.
- Eat dairy, meat, eggs and animal products that are wild caught, grass fed and raised in sustainable
fashions. These products will have natural levels of vitamin D that your body can readily use.
- Supplement your body with Vitamin D3 (the only form I recommend as a
supplement), from late fall, into early spring if you live in a climiate that is far north or south of the
equator. I live where we have five months of winter, so I supplement with vitamin D3 from late October or so,
into late May.
- Consider supplementing with D3 at 2,000 iu per day, in lower light months. Some people may need to go to
3,000+iu per day if they are deficient in vitamin D.
- Deficiencies in vitamin D can be determined by a simple blood test--ask your doctor.
- Find a reliable source of vitamin D3 that comes in an easy to swallow softgel.
Finding A Reliable Vitamin D3 Supplement
Miley Labs' Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) softgels are what I use in my
natural health clinic to provide my patients with convenient, fast and top-quality vitamin D3
supplementation--and it's the "brand" I'd recommend to you, too.
There's nothing particularly special about any company's D3, to be frank--but you do need to have a brand that
is top quality and delivers the purity and potency as stated on the label (which Miley Labs always does).
Other than that, your D3 just needs to be a good quality product--which is why I took time to source and
manufacture a high quality, potency-and-purity guaranteed vitamin D3 for you.

How Much Vitamin D3 Should
You Take?
One bottle of Miley Labs' D3 will last you 90 days if you take one softgel (2,000 iu) per day.
I recommend one softgel per day during low-light winter months--which means I take this supplement daily for
about six months out of the year, where I live.
During summer months, I still take one softgel every other day or so. I'm not too fussy about it, I just take
vitamin D3 when I think of it during summer months.
Some of you may take more vitamin D3 than 2,000 iu per day. I suppose my daily target for vitamin D3 is 4-5,000
iu per day, including my 2,000 iu from supplementation plus what I get from my diet (grass fed meat, grass fed
dairy, pasture-raised chicken and eggs, and so on).
