6 Home Cleaning Tips That Can Help You Get Organized (and Lose Weight).

Use these simple steps to get your life and health on track.

When it comes to losing weight, getting motivated for exercise, and eating right--it turns out that being organized plays a role in helping you stick to your health program.

I can hear you protesting already...but hang in there, we're about to run the data.

For many people, maintaining a healthy weight has a lot to do with environment.

If you are in an environment that encourages activity and eating well, you will likely get fitter, faster.

The opposite holds true, about gaining weight when you are surrounded by junk food, negative people and no exercise options.

One of the simpliest things you can do, across the board, for health improvements is to "spring clean" your home, your office and your health routine.

6 Steps to Jump-Start Your Cleanse From the Inside-Out

1. What's lurking in your freezer and refrigerator?

Most people, especially in colder climates, stockpile all kinds of fattening foods in the freezer.

Old Holiday cookies, ice cream bars, comfort foods to get you through the cold, dark winter days.

Guess what? It's time to clean that stuff out of your life--you're getting ready for swimsuit season, for crying out loud!

Out with the old, in with the new.

2. Clear the fridge.

Same holds true for your refigerator--clean it out just like you are doing with your freezer.

You are making room for fresh foods and healthier foods.

Check expiration dates, look inside those mystery jars (yes, those) and toss whatever looks questionable.

Cleaning just feels good in the spring, don't you think--plus, it's a good time to start a healthier approach to life.

3. Go into your pantry, too.

Donate canned goods to the food shelf, and get rid of those items you "thought" you'd use for that great recipe.

Let someone else experiment with Fava Beans...you are on a mission here.

Clean it out, pack it up and donate it!

4. Organize your desk and workspace.

Clutter makes you feel stuck.

The ancient art of Feng Shui talks about the need to remove clutter so your creative, spiritual and financial energies can flow freely.

If energy is not flowing, you are not growing (at least that's how I think of it), so why not spruce up your energy flow, and clean out at the same time?

5. Move your body.

You only lose weight when you eat right and move your body. Nothing else does it--so why fake it?

Get your athletic shoes out, dust them off and take a walk. If you feel like it, try a short jog/walk to get the feel for it.

Keep at it, making a promise to yourself that you'll exercise for 30 minutes five times per week.

Walking counts. So does weight lifting, swimming and anything that gets your heart rate going.

6. Consider doing an herbal cleanse.

An internal cleanse is an especially good to do once or twice per year.

Chinese Medicine says that spring is an ideal time to cleanse, because the warming foods from winter congest your body and create stagnation.

Stagnation means circulation, fluids and energy slows or gets stuck.

Eating light foods (whole foods, veggies, fruits) and doing a cleanse in the spring helps to unblock this "winter stagnation".

So there you have it:

Six ways you can start improving your health just by getting out the feather duster, the trash can and putting in a little elbow grease.

Watch your clutter (and weight) move to a better place this spring.
