Find A Pure Omega-3 Fish Oil to Benefit Your Health.
Omega-3 fish oil benefits your entire system, and may be one of the single best additions to your diet that you can add. In fact, recent medical finding support evidence that fish oil, and in particular, essential fatty acids (EPA/DHA) found in cold water fish oils, can help protect your body against heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, arthritic pain, PMS and more.
Developing fetuses and toddlers need EPA and DHA to support healthy nerve and brain development, and mother's need to replenish their own supply of these essential fatty acids during breast feeding.
There is a catch however (no pun intended), as to which fish oils are good for you, and which fish oils you should try hard to avoid.
Best sources of clean Omega-3 fish oil..
1. Wild caught fish (such as Alaskan Wild Salmon). Wild caught fish from clean waters, especially from cold waters, will have the highest level of Omega-3 health promoting oils. Such fish include wild caught salmon, herring, sardines and mackerel. Most commonly available is the wild caught salmon, which you can find in most quality supermarkets. Incidentally, you can purchase canned salmon that has been wild caught, and can eat smaller fish (such as sardines), which will have lower levels of potentially toxic heavy metal residues.
The larger the fish, the more concentrated the levels of heavy metals and other unwanted contaminants. This is the case, because larger fish eat a lot of smaller fish, and end up with concentrations of heavy metals taken in from their diet of smaller fish (that also contain heavy metals). So, the higher up on the food chain an animal or mammal is, the more you can expect to see concentrations of all chemical toxins.
Of course, humans are arguably at the top of the "food chain" and we therefore reap what environmental toxins we sow, as those chemicals come back to us via our reliance on plants and animals lower on the food chain to supply our nutritional needs.
Regardless of your wild caught fish source, you may still need to limit your intake of fish to once or twice per week--pregnant women should consult with their doctor regarding intake of fish, as it relates to heavy metal exposure and fetal development. In most cases, pregnant women need to limit fish intake to once per week, depending upon the source of the fish.
2. Purified omega-3 fish oils taken as Softgel capsules. Sad as it is, we've created an environment that is full of toxins that concentrate in all living creatures, and in particular, find their way into ocean waters, rivers, lakes and our topsoil. To this degree, virtually all fish oils will have some concentrations of unwanted chemicals and environmental toxins.
To err on the side of safety, finding an Omega-3 fish oil that has been purified, filtered and "molecularly distilled" to remove all heavy metals, contaminants and measurable toxins is something we would highly recommend that you do. In fact, it is a critical step to take if you are considering using a daily fish oil, to supplement your levels of Omega-3 fatty acids.
Because fish oils need to be extracted and processed from their natural source, it is a relatively simple extra step to take to purify and distill the fish oil, in order to produce a final product that meets exacting standards for purity and cleanliness--insuring that the final fish oil products are free from chemicals and heavy metals.
Miley Labs uses only molecularly distilled fish oil from cold, arctic waters. The cold water helps to increase the content of Omega-3 oils available, and distilling the fish oils removes any measurable levels of unwanted contaminants, and makes the fish oil free of mercury and heavy metals.
We also coats our softgel capsules with a special "enteric coating", designed to prevent any aftertaste of fish odor associated when taking our fish oil. The distillation process we use also helps to preserve the freshness of our fish oil, avoiding rancidity and spoilage issues associated with low-quality "bargain" products.
Whatever fish oil you decide to take, make sure you look for molecularly distilled products that are free from contaminants, and rancidity.
Summary: When it comes right down to it, there are only a couple of good ways to get clean, reliable Omega-3 fish oils. Either you find an edible source of Omega-3 fatty acids, in the form of wild caught fish--or, you take a supplemental form of Omega-3 fish oils that is processed, purified, molecularly distilled and delivered to you in a way that removes your exposure to mercury and other contaminants.

2. Vital Choice Alaska Wild Sockeye Salmon Oil Capsules: these unrefined wild Sockeye Salmon Oil softgels come from wild caught sockeye salmon, and have a deep orange color, which is indicative of their high levels antioxidant pigment (astaxanthin) natural to wild Sockeye. The purity and potency of this Salmon Oil is certified by NSF International.
These are not enteric coated, so you can expect some fishy aftertaste, which they try to manage by adding citrus flavor to the oils. Overall, a very good product also rich in omega-3s, vitamin D.
3. Integrative Therapeutics Eskimo® PurEFA® Brand fish oil--a very high quality fish oil that delivers benefits similar to Miley Labs.
