Soothe Your Sore Throat Naturally

This simple home remedy can relieve a sore throat fast...

Your throat feels raw, red and sore.

You can't sleep because every time you swallow, it feels like barbed wire is stuck in your throat.

All you want is some quick relief to help you rest.

Honey sore throat home remedy

Fear not...here's a home remedy to relieve your sore throat:

Add the following ingredients together into a Tablespoon, and take this throughout the day or night, whenever your throat hurts.

  • Pour some honey onto a Tablespoon until it is about 2/3 full
  • On top of the honey, squeeze a bit of fresh lemon juice
  • On top of this mixture, add a decent sprinkle of cayenne pepper
  • Swallow this mixture.
  • Wait 10-15 minutes after taking this, before drinking liquids

Why this works:

  • Honey is very anti-microbial--it tends to neutralize bacteria and virus activity, and is itself, sterile.
  • Lemon is highly antibacterial and antimicrobial, which is also why it is used in so many natural cleaning products.
  • Cayenne pepper increases blood flow and helps bring more blood to areas of inflammation--making it easier for your body to heal.
  • You want to abstain from drinking liquids immediately after taking this, because you want these ingredients to have time to work on your throat, and not be washed into your stomach.

Other options:

These ingredients would also make a soothing tea, if added to a cup of hot water. You could increase the amount of lemon and cayenne if you drink this as a tea, to make it suit your taste.

This remedy is not as powerful as a tea...so I'd still suggest you not take it "straight from the spoon" for quick relief--then drink the tea later, throughout the day--alternating between these two methods for best results.

Kid friendly, too:

This recipe works well for kids, too--but you may need to omit the cayenne, depending upon the fiery tolerances of your child's taste buds. My kids can take a little bit of heat, but I cut the cayenne way down for them. Use your judgment.
