Omega-3 fish oils reduce high blood pressure.
Omega-3 fish oil benefits your entire system, and may be one of the single best additions to your diet that you can add. In fact, recent medical finding support evidence that fish oil, and in particular, essential fatty acids (EPA/DHA) found in cold water fish oils, can help protect your body against heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and more.
How it works: two primary factors.
Omega-3 fish oils seem to reduce high blood pressure and promote naturally stable blood pressure levels for a two primary reasons.
1. Omega-3 oils are anti-inflammatory. This is significant, because inflammation markers in the body (c-reactive proteins and other markers) trigger swelling in the body. As vessles become swollen, their diameter decreases. Decreasing the diameter of one's arteries, for example, means the relative pressure of blood moving through that vessle increases.
Because fish oils, and in particular Omega-3 fatty acids (EFA/DHA) reduce swelling, they increase the diameter of the vessle walls, relative to their condition when inflammed.
The result is, more blood moves through the vessles, with less resistance (or pressure), thereby decreasing blood pressure.
2. Omega-3 oils slightly thin the blood.
Again, blood moving through vessle walls encounters friction from the resistance of those vessle walls against the blood. It's the same idea you see with a river washing away at the river bank. The river bank is under constant pressure from the river, and the river is resisted by the bank.
So it is with blood flowing through vessles.
The thicker the blood in the vessles, the more resistance against the vessle walls.
Since Omega-3 oils slightly thins the blood, the relative friction of blood flowing through the vessles decreases. As the friction decreases, the pressure of the blood also decreases, because it doesn't have to push as hard to flow the same distance in the body.
