All you need to do is spend a few minutes in a health food store or vitamin shop and you’ll most likely be bombarded with the words “probiotic” and “EM” which is short for “effective microorganism”. These are terms you should know, as they affect your health. I have written an article to assist you in making a decision with the needed information.

What are “Probiotics”?

Probiotics are actually live microorganisms, such as live bacteria or yeasts. Administered in adequate amounts, they have health benefits. Lactic Acid Bacteria, or LAB, is a common Probiotic Products. You find it in yogurt. This is what gives them a sour taste, it also is what contains the characteristic of being able to lower your pH.

What do Probiotics do?

As mentioned above, Probiotic Products lower pH. These are most often used to help promote and restore intestinal flora to help ward against infection. As an example, antibiotics are known to alter the intestinal flora and cause stomach upset. To prevent this, eat plenty of yogurt containing lactic acid bacteria.

Probiotics are used to treat many ailments as well as to prevent them. They are commonly used for allergies, to strengthen the immune system, IBS, for exposure to toxic substances, to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and for diarrhea.Probiotic Products

What is EM Technology?

Teruo Higa, a Japanese horticulturist, developed Effective Microorganism Technology (EM Technology) in the 1970s. Through his study, research and testing, he reportedly was able to positively influence decomposing matter so that it actually stopped decomposing. His discoveries have led to many applications in the fields of agriculture, farming, human health and animal husbandry. Because this technology can be adapted to all things that are living, it has been applied to many sciences.

My goal in this article is to take a peek and see if we can conclude if it is true that acai berry does help with weight loss. You are reading this because you have heard all of the hype about the now famous acai berry and all of the benefits that has been linked to this fruit. Let me start out by saying that acai berry by itself is a great anitoxidant and does have manygreat benefits within it. It is beneficial to take even if you do not want fat loss. However will acai berry help weight loss that is the question we want to consider now.

We live in a time of fast everything, McQuick food, faster cars, impatient people, we hate being put on hold and when it comes to losing weight we want to lose the fat NOW! We resort to different techniques like visiting the gym for a day or two, going on starvation diets, consuming slimming capsules, joining health clinics and some even resort to surgery. Bariatric Surgery has become one of the top advertised weight loss surgeries. I personally know a few that have gone that route. No thanks they are on a daily regiment of medicines to help them exist. Others go in for Liposuction and other weird things to knock off the extra pounds.

Let me be straight with you with the thought—How Does acai berry help with weight loss?—not in and by itself you also need to put forth some effort. The acai berry is not some magical lose weight formula. You will need to watch your food intake and eat sensibly and nutritionally. And of course regular exercise will also help immensely. Even if you just take the time to walk for twenty or so minutes four days a week it will help. I know, I know, your asking “If I have to do all that won’t I lose the weight without acai berry?” Yes, you will but not near as quickly since the acai berry speeds up the metabolism and you will get a much faster calories burn and lose the fat quicker. This brings the end result as natural weight loss which will stay off.

With all the other benefits of the acai berry that helps your body function healthier it just appears to be smart to be actively taking the product. This tremendous berry helps to lower blood pressure, helps fight cancer and arthritis. It also gives a good boost of energy yet helps you to sleep better. Since the acai berry has high fiber content it helps to improve your digestive system and cleanse the body. It also has a host of other benefits which you can find here at health benefits to acai berry.

Colon Cleansing is a subject much debated.

On one side of the fence, you’ll find rabid fans nearly religious in their zeal for colon cleanses.

On the other side of the fence, you’ll find people who brush off such cleanses are mere marketing ploys to take your hard earned money for products not much better that eating saw dust.

My take?

More and more, I think some type of cleanse is important to add into your health plan.

No, it doesn’t have to be the Ultimate Colon Blow, or some harsh product to do the trick.

In fact, I am a bigger fan of slower, gentler cleanses that allow your body time to detoxify and rejuvenate.

As you may know about me, I am trained in herbal medicine, Chinese medicine and have a company that formulates health specific nutritional products (Miley Labs).

When you see I am in favor of cleanses, you may accuse me of being biased.

Not so! I indeed have a whole body cleanse (my “Ultra Clease AM/PM” program) and cleanses designed for detoxifying and supporting health liver, colon, kidney, lymphatic and blood functions.

However, that is not why I find them beneficial or recommend them to my patients.

In creating my health-specific nutritional supplements, I wanted to provide my patients and customers with a reliable, quality and affordable approach to detoxifying and cleansing, because I think it is very important to do.

Many products I’ve reviewed on the market are, in my opinion, too harsh–too aggressive.

Detoxifying and purging your body of toxins need not be an overwhelming experience. You can achieve great results gradually, and that’s been my approach and philosophy in formulating my nutritional supplements.

Here’s what I recommend, if you’re interested in cleansing:  find a product that supports your colon health, liver, kidneys, skin, lymphatics and blood.  Our Ultra-Cleanse product is a great place to start, but you’re welcome to shop around. Just make sure it’s a good product, high-quality and reasonably priced.

One to three times per year, schedule your cleanse. If you are doing a 30 day program, make that month your cleansing month, and follow a cleansing diet and gentle exercise routine.

After you’ve completed your cleanse, I’d recommend taking a daily colon support product, one that provides probiotics, pre-biotics, and fiber.

For a quick colon support program, or in conjunction with your cleansing herbs, add 2-3 T. of fresh ground flax to your diet–you’re nearly guaranteed regular bowels and it has promising anti-cancer benefits (due to it’s high lignan levels)–especially important in preventing colon and breast cancer.

This insures good colon care between cleanses, promotes regular bowel movements and will help your health overall.

Try it–you’ll see for yourself.

I’ll write more about Cleansing Diets soon, but wanted you to know that you can start a gentle colon cleanse right away, and reap the benefits of better health within 30 days.

Check out my “30 Days To Better Health” challenge…see if you’re up for it.

Until then, good health!

A radiant and friendly smile is always a good way to warm the hearts of others. A beaming smile instantly lights up a person’s face, especially if they have nice white teeth to go with it. Many of us are not blessed with a set of virtually white maintained teeth. Although there are a lucky few who have inherited the genes of the winter white smile, for most of us, we need to find ways to bring our teeth back to its glorious whiteness.

There are effective home remedies that are readily available to whiten our teeth, for example, teeth whitening toothpaste, mouthwashes, and whitening pens. However, these methods may take a while to show any signs of improvement. For immediately results, the best way is to seek your dentist for a professional teeth whitening session.

If you are considering whether you should sign up for a professional teeth whitening treatment, here are some tips to guide you in your decision making.

When your permanent teeth first came out, they were probably much whiter than they are today. However, stained by various substances over the years, such as acidic foods, coffee or smoking, yellow gradient shades on the teeth’s surface formed. In a professional teeth whitening treatment, the dentists essentially removes the stain from your teeth’s surface, exposing the original whiter shade.

To remove these stains, peroxide-based chemicals are used, the strength of which rely very much on the following factors:

1). The amount of peroxide in the mixture; and
2). The length of time that the teeth are expose to the solution.

The most common type of teeth whitening approach in modern dentistry, uses a laser technology, which relies on a stronger peroxide solution applied repeatedly over one or several sessions.

Regulated by the health department, the chemical compounds manufactured by private companies to produce professional teeth whitening solutions have to be certified by the government. This ensures that the chemicals used in all teeth whitening are safe if administered by a dentist.

More and more companies are manufacturing teeth whitening products primarily because of the higher demand as more individuals become more conscious about their appearance.

Some of the current popular teeth whitening treatments and products are:

- Zoom! ?.
- Niveous ™.
- LumaArch ™.
- Rembrandt ?.
- BriteSmile ?.
- LaserSmile ™.
- Opalescence ?.
- NUPRO ? White Gold / Illumine ™.

For desired results, the usage of an in-office teeth whitening product and follow up at-home whitener will depend on the dentist recommendations and of course the individual’s needs. If you are looking to get your teeth whitened, consult your dentist, as they stay well informed about the pros and cons of each product.

Causes of Tension Headaches

Tension headaches, just as the name suggests, are headaches that result from being overly tense or stressed out. People overworked at their jobs, or simply have too many things going through their minds, are more prone to getting tension headaches.

Often referred to as stress headaches, tension headaches usually commence around noontime when a large portion of the day has already passed. Like a volcano, the quiet built up of tension and anxiety in an average individual start to take its toll. Many people say that tension headaches begin with a throbbing on both sides of the head and progress to rigidity of the muscles in the neck and head.

Getting a Diagnosis

Most doctors can easily make a positive diagnosis for tension headaches based solely on a physical examination and the patient’s narration of the symptoms they are experiencing. No special tests or medical procedures such as CAT scans or blood tests are usually necessary.

Treatments for the Different Types of Tension Headaches

You can treat mild or sporadic cases of tension headaches by taking ordinary pain medications bought over-the-counter. Although a doctor’s prescription is not required to purchase these drugs, you do need to exercise care in choosing your pain relievers. Some of these medications may produce undesirable results when taking together with other medications. If unsure, you can always consult your physician or simply ask the pharmacist.

If your tension headaches seem to last longer than usual, or if you notice that the headaches are occurring too frequently, please visit your doctor for a proper check-up. You should also consult your physician if over-the-counter pain medications do not producing the desired effect.

Serious cases of tension headaches require a treatment approach that is more drastic than taking common pain relievers. Prescription medication can help to curb the pain and prevent the headache from getting worse. When left untreated, even the mildest cases can progress to something as serious as a migraine. It is always best to address a headache its early stages.

Alternative Ways of Treating Tension Headaches

Some individuals may not be too keen in taking medications. If you are one of those people, there are many other methods you can approach to relief your headache.

Here are some simple and effective ways to prevent and relief tension headaches.

* Make sure you get 7-8 hours of sleep every night.
* Exercise regularly for about half an hour daily.
* Provide immediate relief by applying an ice pack on your head and neck.
* Use acupressure techniques. Massage the areas above and around your ears, temples and back of your neck.
* Go on a leisurely vacation to recharge yourself and escape the stresses associated with your daily hectic lifestyle.

Brad said he’d been on a weight loss program for a long time but one of the reasons why it was difficult for him is because he always ends up adding several extra pounds during the holidays! In essence whatever weight Brad would lose during the whole year would return during the holiday season!

Fortunately, a few years ago Brad discovered some amazing weight loss tricks which helped him avoid holiday weight gain during the last two holidays. Here they are…

Trick#1

Cut down on sugar cravings with Oolong tea:

Sugar is very notorious for making a person gain weight quickly. Sugar in itself is bad enough because it tends to dissolve quickly into the body and convert into fat deposits, but the worst part is that eating sugary foods tends to increase your sugar cravings all the more! In simple words, if you eat sugary foods, you would keep eating them more and more!

The best option is to avoid sugar as much as possible, which you could do with the help of Oolong tea! You may or may not be aware of it but Oolong tea is a good antidote for sugar! Make sure you drink one cup of Oolong tea once before your breakfast and again before going to bed! You would find it pretty easy to suppress your sugary cravings this way!

Trick#2

Eat slow:

Eat slowly and savor every bite of the food you eat; that way, it would be easier for you to kill the junk food cravings and eventually you would end up eating less junk foods than usual! Experts say that our brain takes at least twenty minutes to realize that we are full. If you eat too fast then you are not giving your brain a chance to know whether you need to eat anymore or not! Consequently you would end up eating a lot more food than you need to!

In fact a recent study has found that people who eat slowly have fewer chances of gaining weight in holidays than those who eat hurriedly!

Trick#3

Cut down on high-calorie food intake:

You already know that sugar-rich foods are bad for you, so you need to avoid them as much as you can! Other foods you should avoid are white flour, loaf, cakes, biscuits, cookies, etc., as well as drinks such as alcohol and soft drinks! Once you take these foods out of your food plan, weight control would become much more easier for you!

Have you seen the commercials for the L.A. Weight Loss? According to some people, they’re confusing. They just don’t explain, “What is the L.A. weight loss program?”

The fact is, it’s an excellent support group with personalized nutrition guides and exercise routines. Your personal needs will determine how much time and money you’ll need to put in the program. L.A. Weight Loss centers assign you to your own personal counselor and have dieticians on site to help you reach your weight loss goals.

– FREE TRIAL

A free trial of their program is offered at some locations. This is a great way to see how it works firsthand. When you sign up for your free trial, you’ll be able to receive more information about the different packages available.

– WEEKLY MEETINGS

Each package includes weekly meetings with your counselor, and help with setting up a personalized, healthy menu. The biggest difference in the packages is how long you plan on following the program. Your weight loss goals, combined with your diet and exercise plan, will determine how long you should stay with the program.

Friends and family don’t always know what it’s like to be unhappy with your weight, and might wonder what is the L.A. Weight Loss program and why are you doing it. You can simply tell them that L.A. Weight Loss centers provide a community where everyone understands what you are going through, like trying to ignore the urge for late night cookies or forcing yourself to make it to the gym even though you really didn’t want to go.

Special events are planned to spice up your week and give you the opportunity to share recipes, stories, and tips with other members. You’ll find all the support you need and no judgments in your L.A. Weight Loss community.

– SUPPORT AND WEIGHT LOSS ADVICE

Counselors are also a great source of support that is provided for members of L.A. Weight Loss centers. Weekly meetings with your counselor are set up to discuss how your eating habits and activities are going each week. When you find yourself struggling, your counselor will encourage you not to give up and is trained to find other options to help deal with the troubles you come across along the way. If going for daily jogs isn’t exciting enough for you, your counselor may suggest finding a friend to go jogging with for extra motivation.

Food can be your worst enemy when it comes to losing weight, but with proper knowledge on how food really affects your system it can be your new best friend.

Dietitians will tell you it’s not just the eating of enjoyable foods that is dangerous, it’s simply eating too much of them that packs on the pounds. They’ll help you plan meals that you can enjoy and that will have the right portions and a good balance to the kinds of food you’re eating. With a program like this, the question you should really be asking yourself is what is the L.A. Weight Loss program center closest to me?

Making good use of natural vitamins is a good thing as we see that throughout the world, a lot of people have problems with their digestive systems that make it hard to absorb nutrients and break down the food they eat. This is a common problem, one that is usually caused by a poor level of acid in the stomach, toxic in the gut, or a lack of production enzymes that assist with the breaking down process. There are other causes as well, although the above are the most common. Problems with the digestive tract can be improved quite a bit if you slowly increase your intake of nutrients. A diet that is high in organic matter is the preferred way to improve your digestion, although you may need to use chewable vitamin as well. The best thing about chewable vitamin is the fact that you don’t need a prescription. You can select which ones you want on your own, and purchase them at your local nutrition store or online.

The ideal time to take chewable vitamin is with your meals. During this time, your body can absorb the nutrients better, as your digestive system will be stimulated with food. If you are using time released supplements, you should take them with food to ensure that they move through your body at the right pace and release the proper amount of nutrients and vitamins your body needs at the right time.

It is said that using supplements vitamin that are water soluble are the easiest to use, as they will pass through the body easily and quickly, and should be taken three times a day. vitamin health that are fat soluble are best absorbed if they are taken with food that contains fat. You should always take vitamin health with meals, as the minerals and nutrients found in food will work with the vitamin supplements.

There are some diet supplements that may interfere with others when you absorb them, so you should always make sure what you are taking is acceptable to take with other forms of discount supplements. Below, is a list of the most common vitamins and how you should go about taking them.

1. Vitamins A, D, and E - These vitamins should always be taken with meals that contain fat or oil.

3. Vitamin C - Supplements containing vitamin C should be taken with meals and never on an empty stomach.
4. Iron - Iron supplements should always be taken with food, as they are easy to absorb this way.

With the start of a new year, millions of Americans will be making pledges to either lose weight, or live a healthier lifestyle. One key to living and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is to overcome the terrible effects of oxidative stress on the body.

Unfortunately, most people have never even heard of oxidative stress, therefore, they do not know the effects it can have on the body, nor how to combat it.

Dr. Myron Wentz, (an internationally recognized microbiologist, immunologist, and pioneer in the development of human cell culture technology and infectious disease diagnoses) said in one of his recent lectures that the populace is “living too short, and dying too long”. In other words, many people around the world are dying from chronic degenerative diseases like heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, macular degeneration, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, MS, and the list goes on and on. These diseases seem to be developing in my patients at younger ages. Medications that the doctors give the patients can work – but at a tremendous cost to the body. Even though we place them on medications, we do not seem to change the course of their disease. What good does it do to live to a ripe old age of 93 if you haven’t been able to recognize your family or spouse for the last 10 years because of Alzheimer’s dementia, as was the case of former President Ronald Reagan? Look at Mohamed Ali or Michael J. Fox. Have we been able to effectively help them with their Parkinson’s disease?

Many people are no longer as concerned about the length of time they live, but instead what quality they will have in those years. Because of our stressful lifestyles and poor lifestyle habits, we are suffering earlier from these degenerative diseases. Michael J. Fox developed Parkinson’s disease at 32 years of age. Nearly 45% of our children who develop diabetes have the adult onset or type 2 diabetes. We are certainly living too short and dying too long. oxidative stress, COMBATABLE oxidative stress is a huge factor in this decline in American health.

oxidative stress in the body is caused by an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen and your body’s ability to detoxify the incoming “pollution” or easily repair the damage. When this process gets more stress than it can handle, your body begins to produce toxic substances to help combat the incoming oxidation, which end up being things like free radicals which literally begin breaking down your cells and making them function poorly.

Imagine, if you will, a car engine. When your car is brand new, the engine runs great, you get good gas mileage. But say you don’t change the oil, or buy the right kind of gas, sludge builds up, your car starts emitting smoke, the engine stutters and hesitates and sludge builds up. This is what happens to your body when your body is overwhelmed by oxidative stress.

The good news is that you can REPAIR the damage done to your body by oxidative stress. You can repair this damage by focusing on nutrition – giving your body the nutrition it needs to combat this stress. Adding foods high in anti-oxidants, such as blueberries, strawberries, broccoli, green peppers, green leafy veggies, and so on will certainly help. You can also take supplements if your diet leaves much to be desired. If you are looking into supplementation, though, be sure to chose a high quality supplements (like USANA’s Mega Anti-Oxidant) that is a pharmaceutical grade (not food grade, Centrum, Spring Valley and other popular supplements). Pharmaceutical grade supplementss will ensure that you are getting the same ingredients every time, and exactly what is in the bottle.
